Part 2
This is part two of the Elemental Series, a four-part journey through the forces that shape our personalities, relationships, and spiritual paths.
If you missed the beginning, start with Part 1: Earth, Water, Air, and Fire where we explored the classic elements with a blend of symbolism, wit, and grounded insight.
Today, we dive into the mysterious world of chakras and how they intertwine with elemental energies in ways that are both enlightening and, occasionally, delightfully absurd.

Chakras: When One Energy Is Not Enough, You Need Seven Spinning Light Spheres
Before we dive into the sharp-edged world of metal, let us pause for a moment and consider the chakras. If the elements are the fundamental building blocks of life, then chakras are your internal light board, where each bulb has its own color, malfunction, and matching crystal collection for fixing it.
Chakras are energy centers from Eastern philosophy, located throughout our bodies like a cosmic string of holiday lights. Think of them as spiritual routers, ideally humming in harmony or at least until you watch an annoying video on social media that clogs your solar plexus chakra.
Root chakra (Muladhara) is located at the base of the spine and is associated with the earth element. Red like a fiery chili pepper, it represents safety, survival, and basic needs. When balanced, you feel secure in the world. When blocked, you find yourself hoarding toilet paper and building a bunker in your backyard. A root chakra yogi says, “I feel supported by the Earth beneath my feet.” A person with root chakra issues says, “I am sure the neighbor is plotting against me. That is why I bought seventeen more locks for the door. Just in case.”
Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) sits in the lower abdomen and is connected to the water element. Orange, like a sunset, it governs creativity, sexuality, and pleasure. A balanced sacral chakra means vibrant creativity; an unbalanced one leads to questionable impulse purchases at midnight (“I absolutely NEED this rainbow-colored drying rack for 200 euros!”). The sacral chakra yogi says, “I flow in the current of creativity.” The sacral-challenged one says, “I have changed hobbies twelve times this year and now have a storage unit full of unused ukuleles.”
Solar plexus chakra (Manipura) is located above the navel and aligns with the fire element. Yellow like the midsummer sun, it relates to self-esteem, confidence, and personal power. A balanced solar plexus makes you feel capable. An unbalanced one either makes you boss everyone around like a dictator or apologize for existing every time you breathe. The solar plexus yogi says, “I am strong and capable.” The unbalanced version says, “I will decide what everyone eats at this restaurant, and it is parmesan pasta. Period!” (Or alternatively: “Sorry for breathing. I do not want to be a bother. I will just sit quietly in the corner eating my dry crispbread...”)
Heart chakra (Anahata), located in the chest, is connected to the air element and is green like a spring meadow. It symbolizes love, compassion, and balance. A balanced heart chakra brings the ability to love and be loved. An imbalanced one causes jealousy or emotional frostbite. The heart chakra yogi says, “I give and receive love freely.” The imbalanced heart says, “If you look at that waiter one more time, I swear to the universe…” or alternatively, “Emotions are just biochemical reactions. Not real.”
Throat chakra (Vishuddha) at the throat is linked to the ether element. Blue like a clear sky, it rules self-expression and truth. When balanced, you express yourself clearly. When blocked, you either whisper like a frightened mouse or shout like a megaphone. The throat chakra yogi says, “I speak my truth calmly.” The misaligned version either mumbles, “e-excuse me, I have something to say…” or yells into the phone on the bus so loudly the whole street hears the details of your breakup.
Third Eye chakra (Ajna), the “inner eye” on the forehead, is associated with all elements at once or with the space above them. Indigo in color, it relates to intuition and inner vision. A balanced third eye brings insight. An unbalanced one either convinces you that you are clairvoyant or makes you completely blind to the obvious. The third eye yogi says, “I see truth with my inner vision.” The unbalanced one says, “I can see the future. You will marry three times, and one of your spouses will be a mail carrier!” or “Intuition? What is that? Do I eat it with ketchup?”
Crown chakra (Sahasrara), located at the top of the head, relates to cosmic consciousness and is either violet or white. It governs spiritual awakening and divine connection. A balanced crown chakra helps you feel unity with the universe. An unbalanced one makes you either believe you are a deity or dismiss all spirituality entirely. The crown chakra yogi says, “I am one with the universe.” The misaligned one says, “Bowing to me is optional, but appreciated,” or “Spirituality is nonsense. The only real thing is this table I just stubbed my toe on.”
Chakras and elements work in tight collaboration a sort of cosmic workplace where earth keeps your feet on the ground, water helps you flow, fire ignites your passion, air connects everything, ether binds it all together, and the two upper chakras bring a divine vision about, for instance, how to organize your socks (crown chakra: “Everything is one. Arrange them however you like”; third eye: “I see you sorting your socks by color. Your life improves by thirty-seven percent”).
